FAQs
-
Pelvic Flores is an out-of-network provider so cash and credit card payments are accepted at the point of service. You will receive a superbill, which is a detailed receipt for healthcare services, that you can send to your insurance company to apply for reimbursement after you have paid for services.
-
Specialized Care and Expertise - Out of over 312,000 physical therapists in the U.S., less than 10k are pelvic floor specialists. It is hard to find a pelvic floor physical therapist, and it is even harder to find one that is in-network because in order to deliver optimal patient care and best utilize the skills attained, we need to be one-on-one with our patients. Some sessions entail internal pelvic floor muscle assessments and patient education on private subjects such as sexual health, bladder management, and bowel habits.
Longer, one-on-one sessions - Out-of-network providers do not have requirements to see 2-3 patients in an hour or see multiple patients at once. Because Dr. Flores sees the benefit of quality of care over quantity of visits, you will have longer 1-on-1 sessions to get the results you deserve and need as quickly as possible!
Flexibility in Treatment - Manual therapy and internal pelvic floor assessments actually provide less reimbursement than having a patient perform exercises in a gym at a traditional clinic, so often these skilled treatment techniques get placed on the back burner. Pelvic Flores does not receive more or less money for soft tissue massage, cupping, patient education, pelvic floor muscle assessments, or therapeutic exercise prescription which means you will receive the best treatment approach for you, and it will not be guided by insurance reimbursement!
Faster Access to Care - Pelvic Flores has shorter wait times for appointments compared to many in-network providers. You are also able to be seen immediately without a doctor’s referral in the state of SC for 30 days after the initial evaluation.
Transparency in Costs: I’m sure you’ve received a surprise medical bill before. I’ve been there too, and it can be extremely frustrating. You could be told you only have a $50 copay at each visit and then you later receive an outstanding balance of hundreds of more dollars for multiple visits and procedures that you were unaware insurance was not covering partially/fully. Many times, you end up spending more than you would have at an out-of-network provider and the care was not as specialized. At Pelvic Flores, this will never happen. You know the cost of every appointment before you book it, and you pay at the point of service with NO bills delivered later.
Less Restrictions on Frequency and Duration of Care - Insurance companies impose restrictions on the number of sessions or duration of care they will cover. Cash-based therapy allows you to attend as often as you need without these limitations.

I graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology in 2018. Then, I earned my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2021. I have years of experience treating a combination of orthopedic and pelvic health populations with a wide variety of diagnoses. I received my certification through the Herman & Wallace institute to treat urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, bowel dysfunction, pregnancy-related discomfort, postpartum pelvic floor dysfunction, and post-operative patients.

Initial evaluations are 75-minutes since more information and objective measurements will need to be obtained. Follow-up visits are 60 minutes long.
-
Without performing an internal vaginal exam, it is impossible for your therapist to grade the true function of your pelvic floor muscle strength, mobility, endurance, and coordination. It will provide a learning moment for you—the patient—as well as help guide Dr. Flores on the best treatment approach for you. You can of course choose to refuse this part of the assessment but know that it could result in more follow up visits and your progress could plateau if we are missing this major piece of information.
-
Of course! Periods are not a contraindication for physical therapy. We can always skip any internal exams or treatments during your period if you are uncomfortable.
-
It is actually optimal for you to receive prenatal care! During pregnancy, women can struggle with diastasis recti, round ligament pain, low back/hip pain, incontinence, etc. Pelvic physical therapy can make pregnancy a more enjoyable experience for you. Secondly, Dr. Flores provides birth prep and education to help you with your birth plan. Postpartum recovery is much better when you have education and a strong core (which includes the pelvic floor ;)) going into delivery.
-
Workout clothes are a great option. Anything that is comfortable for you and easy to take on/off is best.
-
Absolutely not! It’s never too late. Once you have had a baby, you are technically forever “postpartum.”
-
It is common, but it certainly isn’t “normal.” A multitude of factors can contribute to stress urinary incontinence including your ribs, abdominal wall, pelvic floor muscle tone and coordination. That’s why Dr. Flores offers both internal vaginal assessments and a comprehensive musculoskeletal evaluation at the initial assessment.
